Live redesign, step 1

· By Faruk Ateş on May 18, 2005 · 16 comments ·

A quick update to explain the slight change in appearance, which happens to be step 1 of the announced live redesign process.

If you had looked at the KuraFire Network somewhere between sunday evening and just now, you'd have seen a completely unstyled version of the site. This, as I've explained a bit in previous posts, is where it all started with the redesign. Right now, I've moved into step 1, which consisted of adding two things:

  1. the initial.css file, which contains the basic styling that is making things less painful on your eyes right now
  2. the JavaScript/CSS Slideshow functions, which you can see implemented on the right

When I get round to it, I will write an elaborate explanation of the live redesign, announcing also all the upcoming changes and new features. For now, you'll have to do with step 1 and this brief little post. I made a demonstration case of the JavaScript/CSS Slideshow script, which does a much better job at conveying my plans than this website in its current state.

I was a bit sceptical about live redesigning, but thanks for pulling the concept to a more mature level!

I found that this is the only acceptable form of doing it, and not only that, I found that this can be an immensely educational form, too.

Keeping every step separated once the process is finished, in a static demonstration page, allows any of us to show others how a CSS-layout is made from scratch. :)

Looking forward to it.

Sounds quite fun.

As someone who doesn't know as much about CSS and all, my suggestion with the slideshow is to somehow tell us what you did in each step. I mean, I can see that the font changed and such, but I'm sure there's more going on.

I'm going to elaborate on it extensively when I get round to it. It's just that at 2:30 am, I don't think it's wise for me to start on writing a post that will probably take me around 4 hours to write.

This is a very nice idea :) I'll be sure to come back and see the progress your making. This is... intriguing!

It's been awhile since I have seen the site. I lost contact with you and the members at the time when The site originally went down during the process of setting up version 6.

Very good show, sir! Huzzahhh..

It's looking good... :-) Maybe, you could elaborate also on WHY certain things changed. From my standpoint, I'm a programmer and know how to code HTML and CSS. The big things I'm usually struggling with is WHY certain things are the way they are. An "Interface design 101" is called for. ;-)

Heh, I like that title: Interface Design 101. :-) Mind if I use that? I was already planning such a post, when the design's done. :)

That's pretty cool. I just watched the 23 step process. Extremely well done considering it's on a live site. There is a GIF animation of this too.

The GIF animation is what inspired me to do this :-)

That was cool. Great idea to show the process of building and tweaking the CSS.

Brave and superb! Very educational too. I'd love to see a link, or hover box, with info about the changes made in each slide.

All times are in CET. It is now 19:44.
